Bangle Woadwaxen

Description

Height: 24 inches

Spread: 3 feet

Hardiness Zone: 4

Other Names: Lydia Woadwaxen

Description:

A longer blooming variety that produces waves of electric yellow flowers throughout early and mid spring; after blooming the nearly leafless stems add texture and interest in the garden setting; excellent as a massed low hedge or groundcover

Ornamental Features:

Bangle Woadwaxen is blanketed in stunning yellow pea-like flowers along the branches from early to late spring. It has aqua bluish-green foliage throughout the season. The small oval leaves do not develop any appreciable fall colour. The fruit is not ornamentally significant. The khaki (brownish-green) stems can be quite attractive.

Landscape Attributes:

Bangle Woadwaxen is a multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with a ground-hugging habit of growth. It lends an extremely fine and delicate texture to the landscape composition which should be used to full effect.

This is a relatively low maintenance shrub, and should only be pruned after flowering to avoid removing any of the current season's flowers. It has no significant negative characteristics.

Bangle Woadwaxen is recommended for the following landscape applications;

  • Groundcover
  • General Garden Use
  • Mass Planting

Plant Characteristics:

Bangle Woadwaxen will grow to be about 24 inches tall at maturity, with a spread of 3 feet. It tends to fill out right to the ground and therefore doesn't necessarily require facer plants in front. It grows at a slow rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for approximately 20 years.

This shrub should only be grown in full sunlight. It prefers dry to average moisture levels with very well-drained soil, and will often die in standing water. It is considered to be drought-tolerant, and thus makes an ideal choice for a low-water garden or xeriscape application. It is particular about its soil conditions, with a strong preference for sandy, alkaline soils, and is able to handle environmental salt. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments.

This is a selected variety of a species not originally from North America.

This plant is not reliably hardy in our region, and certain restrictions may apply; contact the store for more information.
