Alexander Loosestrife features beautiful spikes of gold star-shaped flowers at the ends of the stems from late spring to early summer, which are most effective when planted in groupings. The flowers are excellent for cutting. It's attractive pointy leaves emerge pink in spring, turning green in colour with showy creamy white variegation and tinges of pink throughout the season. The fruit is not ornamentally significant.

Alexander Loosestrife will grow to be about 18 inches tall at maturity extending to 24 inches tall with the flowers, with a spread of 24 inches. It grows at a fast rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for approximately 10 years.
This perennial does best in full sun to partial shade. It is quite adaptable, prefering to grow in average to wet conditions, and will even tolerate some standing water. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution. This plant can be propagated by division.
