Description:

This fruit producing variety is widely utilized in tropical landscapes; cut suckers away to maintain single trunk tree; will slowly mature into a stately palm and make an excellent landscape focal point

Ornamental Features:

Date Palm has attractive bluish-green foliage throughout the season. The narrow pinnately compound leaves are ornamentally significant but do not develop any appreciable fall colour. It has panicles of yellow flowers hanging below the branches in mid summer. The fruits are showy yellow drupes carried in abundance in mid fall, which are excellent for fresh eating, cooking and baking and making jams and jellies but which can be messy if allowed to drop on the lawn or walkways. This is a female variety of the species which requires a male selection of the same species growing nearby in order to set fruit. The rough gray bark adds an interesting dimension to the landscape.
