Here is a little history from the building we operate.
McIntosh House is one of the historical points of interest in Red Deer. It was built in 1906 by master bricklayer Julius McIntosh. The double brick walled house with corner quoins, artistic concrete blocks, fish scale shingles, gauged brick around the windows, and wrap around veranda was one of many brick buildings erected by Julius McIntosh. He worked his trade in Red Deer for nearly 60 years until he reached the age of 85.
Julius was a fourth generation Canadian whose grandfather, Allen, and great grandfather, John, developed the McIntosh apple. The McIntosh parents emigrated from Inverness, Scotland first to Mohawk Valley, N.Y. and later to Upper Canada in 1796. In 1811 while clearing land John discovered several apple seedlings. He transplanted these and on bore the superior fruit which became famous as the McIntosh Red Apple.
